Day 365: One Year!

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

One year!It has been one year since I filled the tank with salt water and introduced the first live rock. Many people consider the first year mark as the point at which a salt water reef tank can be considered mature. My first attempt at a reef tank has had some ups and downs, but in general the ups has far outweighed the downs and it’s been a ton of fun. Setbacks have been surprisingly few. There have been relatively few losses. Most of them can be attributed to livestock that were not doing well to begin with. The only coral die off I’ve had (the hitchhiker hydnophora) managed to make a spectacular recovery. I’m excited to see what I’ll have going on this time next year.

Today I updated the about page with links from all the current live stock to their gallery pages. I also think back on some of the landmarks and consider what I did right, and what I would do differently. But first, a quick comparison shot! I also have an annotated version on the one year shot.
